Famicom 30th Anniversary = 30 Cent Virtual Console Downloads

Post by BurningDoom »

The latest Nintendo Direct Mini episode told us that Nintendo will be celebrating the Famicom's 30th Anniversary by releasing many Famicom/NES titles for only 30 cents a piece until July (the launch month of the original Famicom) through Wii U's virtual console service.

Sounds great! Except I don't have a Wii U. I'm wondering if anyone knows if this deal is gonna extend to the original Wii? I'm having trouble finding such information. Thanks for any help!

Good prices... now make an actual account system, Nintendo!

I don't think the Wii is getting the deal.

Once again the UK gets screwed over by this deal - 30p is quite a bit more than 30c ;)

It's a cool offer though. I own most of the games on the deal in some form already (Punch out on NES, Balloon Fight on 3DS VC, Super Metroid and Kirby's Adventure on Wii VC, but for 30 pence I'm not going to complain about buying them again.

I'm less keen on having to pay for games I bought on Wii Virtual Console again to play them on Wii U though.

I know a lot of people are a bit annoyed because Japan has a better selection of games on the way - instead of Punch Out and F-Zero, they're getting a SNES Fire Emblem game and Earthbound. I'm just hoping Earthbound appearing on Japanese VC is a positive sign for a release in the west though - it's never been digitally released anywhere before.

Earthbound is very unlikely due to the music.

No. This promo is specific to the launch of VC on Wii U.

I see that you're being light, but honestly, why this "screwed over" attitude all the time? Pricing of consumer goods has little to do with currency parity...someone should do an article about it.

Don't worry, I know that. Even ignoring differences in earnings and the cost of living in different countries, the UK prices for games includes 20% tax which isn't present in the US pricing. It was just for the sake of a crappy joke

However, some other European countries have plenty of right to complain about their game pricing - games are priced the same in Euros no matter which EU country they're being sold in - and whilst 50 euros may be more reasonable in the likes of France or Germany, to the poor buggers in the likes of Romania or Poland who earn a significantly lower wage on average, new games are worth an unreasonably large amount of their income. It's very probably the reason fake copies of games can be so common in Europe.
