The goal: Rip my TurboGrafx-16 CD games to .bin/.cue (or .bin/.iso), so that I can play them on the WiiMednafen Emulator. (I own an awesome and fully working TurboDuo, so this is really an effort to digitize my game library).
I thought that TurboRip 1.0 would be the easy victory. However, it won't run on my Windows 7 box. Every time I try to launch it I get:
(6) Error opening Registry for "Hardware\DeviceMap\SCSI\SCSI Port 0"
Error = 2
portNumber = 0
I can't find any solutions to this problem online, which isn't surprising, considering that TurboRip was created in 2006 and TurboGrafx-16 CD games were never very popular—a damn shame!
Anyway, I'd welcome any help on how to rip my games so that they play on this emulator. There's definitely no issue with the source material, because they play great on the TurboDuo. I think my CD Drive is fine, too, because it rips Sega CD games via ImgBurn without a problem. of course, the same software doesn't seem to like my TG-CD discs.

EDIT: Yikes, never mind. I missed that last bit.
What issues are you having with the TG rips when you use IMGBurn?
EDIT: Checked on Darkwater groups methods, and found this:

(I hope that it's okay to post these links, and that a mod will remove them if not.)
I've always used AcetoneISO or IMGburn for ripping, but maybe CDRWin would yield better results for you.

Re: Help Ripping PC Engine CD Games on Windows 7
Thanks for the advice. ImgBurn stalls on session 1 track 2 (15+ minutes without any progress). I've tried three different games to no avail. Even tried ripping at 1x speed.
I know CDRWin is a good choice, but only the really old versions are good (I tried the version 10 demo recently and it's total garbage); I highly doubt I could find version 3.9 and get it to run on Win7.

Ah, right. Well that's too bad.
I was going to suggest trying to run CDRWin or Turborip in WINE, but apparently it isn't functional in windows yet. (As in, it doesn't even seem to be compilable yet, if ever.)
I tried looking up some info on the errors you were getting and found that the SCSI port 0 is the ATAPI Hard Disk Controller, though I don't know what error 2 means.
I also found this hard drive issue related to this port:
http://techlogon.com/2011/03/28/how-to-fix-hard-drive-stuck-in-pio-mode/
It kind of doesn't seem like that's that problem you're having, but I thought it might be worth a quick check, just in case.
Also, it seems like post #5 here might help:

Re: Help Ripping PC Engine CD Games on Windows 7
Why not just download what you want from underground gamer? If you own the game you shouldn't feel guilty about downloading a copy. The ripping process will take longer than anything. I burn my TG16 CD games using imgburn on Windows 7 64bit.

Good question. I was hoping to write a guide for my site about ripping and emulating PC Engine games. I feel that if you don't offer the ripping explanation you're encouraging people who don't own the physical games to pirate them.

Re: Help Ripping PC Engine CD Games on Windows 7
Hi, long time lurker, first time poster here.
I'm not sure why the author hasn't publicized this more, but v1.0 is known not to work with Vista (and presumably 7). However, he has a v1.10 beta that does work:
http://www.ysutopia.net/forums/index.php?topic=69.msg3668#msg3668
I just tested both v1.0 and v1.10 beta on 7 x64 (with a Sega CD game, as I don't own any PCE/TG16 CD games or hardware). With v1.0, no drives were detected if I ran non-elevated; when I ran elevated, I saw the same error messages you reported. With v1.10, it detected my drives while non-elevated, and ripped the game. I didn't have Kega on this machine, so I grabbed it, tested my rip, and the emulated SCD kept rebooting - but when I transferred my rip to my Linux system with Kega already set up, it worked just fine, so I'm going to chalk those problems up to something other than TurboRip.
Hope that helps!
(Edit: the rip works in Kega Fusion 3.63 on the same Windows 7 x64 machine. I was testing initially on 3.64. I was using 3.63 on Linux also.)

I was gonna ask the same thing but I did not want to appear to be a troll.
I have used ImgBurn to rip some of my Turbo games BUT I remember a few discs having errors. I distinctly recall Star Parodia not wanting to be ripped. I ended up just going the DL method for those that had trouble.
I think your article on TG/PCE ripping will be helped with your issues. When you find a solution, you can share it to the world.

Wow, long time lurker, way to make an awesome first impression. I had no idea that beta version of TurboRip existed. Just fired it up, and it's running like a champ on Win7. Thank you so much! PM me if you'd like that underground-gamer invite.
