It is unfortunate that the company is in this kind of trouble. I am hoping they are able to successfully able to restucture and avoid Chapter 7 Bankruptcy (liquidation) altogether.

This has happened before in the gaming industry - drawing a blank now but I remember reading about it in Retrogamer magazine.Atari Inc. and three of its affiliates filed petitions for Chapter 11 reorganization in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York late Sunday.
Its leaders hope to break the American business free from French parent Atari S.A. and in the next few months find a buyer to take the company private.

Isn't present day Atari basically just Atari in name only?
Re: Atari files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy
As far as im concerned, they are only known for the Atari 2600, everything after that is meh.AppleQueso wrote:Isn't present day Atari basically just Atari in name only?

Infogames bought all their intellectual property and then changed their name, so yes. This filing is to try to break away from that.AppleQueso wrote:Isn't present day Atari basically just Atari in name only?
Re: Atari files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy
That's correct, as far as I know. It's a brand name used by Infogrames. They own all of Atari's intellectual property still, except for some arcade game rights which were owned by Midway/Midway Games West (now owned by WB)AppleQueso wrote:Isn't present day Atari basically just Atari in name only?

I guess they are only making money in the mobile/digital space. The Atari Greatest hits app that ships with the iCade is freakin' excellent. Most people I know paid the in-app purchases for the addition 99 games. Could be the future for Atari!

I'm not gonna lie, I assumed Atari went out of business years ago.
