What Games Pushed The Limits of the SNES?

Now that we've covered the NES, lets move onto the SNES.

The main ones that come to mind are:
Yoshi's Island
Star Fox
Donkey Kong Country
Star Ocean
Tales of Phantasia
Cybernator/Assault Suits Valken
Axelay
Street Fighter Alpha 2
Stunt Race FX
Killer Instinct

Anybody else know of some killer SNES titles that made the system sweat?

Megaman X2 and X3, the C4 chip took years to emulate properly

And it did practically nothing for those games except for the occasional wireframed polygon overlay.

I just remembered another game. Star Fox 2. I'm not sure if this counts since it wasn't officially released for the snes, but it has the most breathtaking graphics ever seen in a snes game.

I don't know how much "pushing the system" Cybernator and Killer Instinct did, really... It's hard to tell what pushed the SNES, because the typical "cool technology" stuff was either over-use of mode 7 or due to extra chips put in the cartridge. Most SNES games actually suffered quite a bit under the sub-par CPU Nintendo selected for the system.

I'll have to go back through my games and see what I can find that really pushed some boundaries in addition to the ones you've already listed...

maybe Pilotwings.

its funny looking through the list of games and realizing the huge difference there was between home computers and consoles there were at this point. SNES still had releases in 96 and 97. during those days I was playing games on a PC that dominated anything ever made for the SNES.

Because I didn't say that, and it doesn't even make sense. I assume it's referring to the polygonal sigma head in the game...

I was thinking Super Metroid. When you did the charge and dash or super jump thingy there wasn't even any slowdown, probably just good programing. Take that blast processing. haha.

What about Final Fantasy III (or even FFII)? The hand drawn look of the bosses and the Summon spells were amazing. There are games on PS1 or Saturn that don't even look that good. Also, the magnitude of the game. I think it was the first truly "epic" rpg I can remember. (although I loved Lufia and Earthbound)
