Is the psp the same as a ps2?

Post by mas »

I have my psp for a few months now and I just got a ps2 for free from a friend so I was going to start buying games but I noticed online thru YouTube and other sites that the psp games look almost identical to the ps2 games. So is the psp actually a portable ps2? If that's the case then I'm not going to even bother with the ps2 and just give it back.

Uh... no not really?

The PSP has a completely different library for one.

That's like saying the GBA is the same thing as the SNES.

The PSP is more like a gimped PS2. Sure they share some games (mostly late releases), but, the PS2 offers a whole lot more than the PSP.

Gimped? Well, weaker, yes. But mainly different. There are also plenty of PSP games that are not available on PS2

Piece of advice, hack your psp and rip games straight to your memory card. A lot of psp games have horrible load times when played from the umd disk.

Oh for sure, but, there's just SO MUCH on the PS2. To only play the PSP and not play the PS2 is a disservice to one's self. Graphics not withstanding, the PS2 is simply better than the PSP, even if the PSP did try to recreate the PS2 experience.

The PSP trying to recreate the PS2 experience on the go is what held it back.

Technically a hacked psp is better if you factor in that you can play every retro game ever made up to ps1 :P

By that notion, PC is best since I can pretty well emulate everything INCLUDING the PS2. :P

True but the psp can fit in your pocket and a pc can't (unless your still rocking jinkos from the 90's) I firmly believe that the hacked psp is still the best portable system out there.
