Resident Evil: What games are canon now?

Post by Opa Opa »

Okay, there's RE 0-6. Obviously those are canon.

But what about Code Veronica? Does it fit in the overarching storyline... and where? After RE 2/3 I'm assuming. Is it before or after 4?

Also, does the REmake affect anything?

Thanks for any help. I've been in a survival horror mood and I'm just a little curious about the order of the Resident Evil series.

afaik

REmake replaces 1, though it doesn't really matter as it has everything important that happened in the original 1 is in it anyway.

Code Veronica is between 2/3 and 4.

You mean "fourth", right?

I thought it was between 2 and 3. No?

EDIT: Nope, you're right. Guess I had my release history wrong.

Actually now that I'm thinking about it, didn't Umbrella Chronicles and Darkside Chronicles effectively replace the first several games?

The Chronicles games are actually really comprehensive in terms of RE story and lore.

I'd say it could be argued that they replaced the old games. They cover all the main story points and you unlock files/documents for each game.

It is entirely possible to play the rail-shooters and get caught up with the story (until you get to RE 4).

It's funny to remember Wesker practically dies in the original. Didn't the Tyrant rip him in half?

CV fits somewhere in/during RE3 and beyond.

RE4 is where the series ends for me. Imagine Metal Gear Solid 5-6 without Kojima, that's RE5-RE6.

Even though RE4 is purely a spinoff for the most part, outside of recurring characters. So really the main story wraps up with RE3 for me.

Man I just love the Resident Evil games and the stories of it all, well the old ones.

This holds true with me too. 0-3 for the main story of what happened and the immediate ''last escape''. Then Code Veronica is Claire's story about looking for her brother, when she can't find Chris in Raccoon City but learns he is in Europe (during RE2). Resident Evil 2 (time wise) takes place in the middle of RE 3. Resident Evil 4 just went off the path for me with a major time lapse and other story changes. I don't have any experience with 5 & 6.

I think Tyrant just stabs Wesker with his spear-arm.

You ought to give RE 6 a try sometime. It actually rekindled my desire to get back into the series.
