First of all, hello!
I picked up an old Gameboy pocket the other day for a few quid, It works fine when using the mains supply but refuses to power on when using batteries. I was just wondering whether anyone would know what the most likely culprit would be?
I cleaned the contacts which touch the batteries because they did look a bit grimy, but still no luck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I would love to fix it up!

I'd open it up and make sure there isn't an issue inside related to the battery connections. Maybe a leaky battery that the battery bay was cleaned, but it snuck elsewhere and needs cleaning or correcting.

Are there any caps issue with the gameboy pocket? With mine, I get the red led power light but no display.
When I first got the unit (from Freecycle), the display was working but then it stopped working shortly thereafter.
I haven't done any research (google) on this yet.

I know you said you cleaned the contacts, but just try wiggle/roll the batteries with your fingers whilst the system is turned on.

No there doesn't seem to be any other issues; Without the mains adapter I'm not getting the LED, screen or sound.
I gave the battery connectors another wee scratch and then rolled the batteries around while the system switch was set too on with no luck
I'm starting to think that I'll need to open it up and have a poke around, unfortunately I don't have access to any of my tools atm (multimeter, gameboy screwdriver etc.).
I will update if I progress at all, In the meantime however I would appreciate any other suggestions.

This is what I have to do with my original model GameBoy. The batteries fit "looser" they used to, and need to be coaxed into the right position.Thierry Henry wrote:I know you said you cleaned the contacts, but just try wiggle/roll the batteries with your fingers whilst the system is turned on.
