Lightscribe worth it?

Post by treepop »

I was curious how good lightscribed discs looked. For my cd backups I wanted to put something on the disc other than my wretched handwritting. I currently do not own a lightscribe capable cd burner, so I was curious how they looked.

Would I be able to get a cd label off a site and just plop it into a lightscribe program and have it be replicated? It wouldn't be in color, but I am curious how it would look.

Thanks!

If Google is anything to go off of, they don't look too different from those black and white greatest hits ps1 games.

This amused me: http://moderngadfly.blogspot.ca/2009/08 ... sucks.html

It's not THAT bad, especially if you have some cool monochromatic artwork/lettering. It really depends on how talented you can become with the lightscribe software. However, it still holds true today -- if you have an inkjet that can print on discs, it's a no-brainer which option you'd choose.

Don't cd labels look awful? I don't know, it has been a while.

*Edit*

Maybe if I got some really glossy labels it would look nice...

*Edit #2*

Wont the labels add additional weight and burn out the cd drive in my saturn/dreamcast/ps2?

Ah. Cool. Can you print on those with a standard laser jet?

It should be pretty obvious by now...

Hint: not lightscribe
Another hint: take a look at this poll.

It's even more obvious now. I didn't notice before that your images were links. I clicked and noticed the printer being talked about was the Epson R200. Since I have the R300 I figured it would be capable of doing this as well. After some rummaging I found the cd printing tray!

So I guess I know what I will be doing. Thanks for the insight everyone.

*EDIT*
These sites seems to have some CD art too.
