Mario Party 2 & Star Fox 64 N64 Passport III Problems

Post by OniLink99999 »

Hi guys,

Hope you all had a very merry Christmas! My N64 collection certainly did, as I recieved an N64 Passport III along with some NTSC games (I live in Australia and have a PAL N64). However, I'm having problems with two games - Mario Party 2 and Star Fox 64 (the other four work perfectly).

These issues are sound related. In the case of Mario Party 2, the music plays but there are no sound effects. I am using the built-in Lamborghini Boot Code to start it up, as that's what I found on the net. With Star Fox 64 it's the exact opposite - the sound effects and voice acting play perfectly, but there's just no music (it's hard to convey just how dull even a game like SF64 seems without music, haha). There's no boot code needed for this one, but I did try the JAP version boot code with no success. I've also tried cleaning both games, but this unfortunately didn't help.

I have been searching for the past hour but haven't come across anyone else who's had similar issues (all I've found is video evidence that this should be working). Does anyone have any ideas what the issue might be, and how I can fix it?

Thanks a ton in advance! :D

Bump (I hope that's okay =)

The immediate problem I've got is whether the problem is with the games themselves, or if it's something to do with the adapter. Naturally, if the problem is with the games, I'll have to send them back. If there are no solutions, does anyone know what could be causing this issue?

Thanks!

Well, I finally found the solution to my problems, and I figured I'd post the Mario Party 2 solution in-case anyone else is looking for it.

To get Mario Party 2 to work with sound effects, use this code: E93DFF04 00000000 It's the All Games (N64 Passport III only) NTSC to PAL Code. It should work perfectly after that.

Star Fox 64 had a comically stupid end - as it turns out, the previous owner had gone into the sound settings and turned the game's music setting down to 0 (why the heck you'd mute this game's soundtrack is beyond me). So it was just a simple matter of turning the volume back up

And with that, the topic can be closed =)

Glad you figured it out. Unfortunately we have less people in PAL land on here, then probably less again that are using a Passport. I know several people just opted to import systems to get around incompatibilities and speed issues.
