I've seen some good parodies of edutainment, and I know it's a hot topic, but I'm wondering if there are any good examples of edutainment that aren't going to be from some specialty area where the programs cost a small fortune.
Any suggestions?
My favorite is probably Typing of the Dead.

I can think of some Apple II games?
Carmen Sandiego, Oregon Trail, and the Muncher series are all pretty good in their own way.

There's a scene in Sam&Max with a flashing edutainment sign, does that count?
I guess grand strategy games by paradox could be considered to be edutainment given the historical theme.

I hope so.emwearz wrote:Do games like Putt Putt and Freddy Fish count?
The Humongous Entertainment adventure games are great, if easy, adventures. The different paths add a lot of replay value.
The Zoombini series is loads of fun. The logic puzzles become quite challenging as I recall, but I haven't played it for several years.

Mario Teaches Typing made me the Mavis Beacon I am today. I've never played a typing game I didn't like thoughMrPopo wrote:I have a soft spot for Mario is Missing.

I remember really digging Jump Start 3rd Grade when I was young. I played it when I was older too. I should dig up a copy for nostalgia along with I Spy Spooky Mansion.

Has anyone used that Rosetta Stone foreign language software? I've heard it's game-ish, but never tried it myself.

I learned my decimals by playing Decimal Dungeon on an Amiga at school.
