My game room is a mess. When I started collecting I figured I'd get 3-4 consoles and maybe 50 games total. Yeah...
Now I'm at the point where I have no shelf space. I've taken to stacking shit on the bed...
Exquisite.
I think my solution (for now) would be to pick up some shelves to mount on the wall. I've never done something like this before and I'm having a tough time finding exactly what I want. I checked out Home Depot, but everything was too garage/industrial looking. I guess I'd want sleek white ones, something "home & office" looking. Anyone have any ideas? Do Staples, K-Mart, whatever carry shelves like this? I don't want to drive aimlessly around the city looking. I'm mostly just looking for clean straight shelving (kind of like this).
Lowes sells Shelf brackets and boards like this:
There's a lot of different styles of brackets to choose from, and three or four different colors of boards (usually black, white, and one of two shades of brown).
Just bolt the shelves strait into the studs of your walls nice and level, then lay a board across. Voila!
I'd just like to stay that you shouldn't use the word "stacking shit" when your picture shows a copy of Phantasy Star and Star Control

Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box
I'd recommend any shelf and bracket system from Ikea. Lowes is also good. The thing to keep in mind is that you want the brackets to be positioned so that you have some leeway when finding your studs through the wall. If you're going to put some weight on those shelves, they need to be fixed to the studs. You probably knew that already.
kind of expensive, but it might be the style of thing that you are looking for. I'm not sure how it attaches to the wall, but it is probably some form of cleat system like typical cupboards.
Sorry I somehow missed the picture of the style you were looking for, so my two suggestions can be ignored.
I would go with what the first reply said. I know you can buy pre finished white shelf boards at most home centers, and then you just have to pick out what style of shelf bracket you want. Going with the prefinished boards would probably require the least amount of work but might add to the cost a little.
I'm in the process of building some myself just out of red oak and some brackets from home depot. I'll post pics when im done. Ikea is definitely a good idea. Usually reasonably priced and hold up/look nice.
What's nice is the mounting hardware doesn't stick out so you can stack the shelves very densely (like a bookcase) and it has a small retaining edge which is just a little longer than the size of a DVD case, so everything looks really nice on it.

Word of warning to the DIY'ers- the rubber feet on heavier items (consoles, joysticks) MAY eventually stick to the polyurethane surface and pull up some stain. Perhaps if I knew what I was doing, this wouldn't happen.

I'm too lazy to stain it. However, that is good advice.
