Bought another Saturn

Post by Zombie_X »

Hey guys,

I haven't been active lately but I had to post here again. So recently I picked up a Model 2 White Japanese Saturn for $20 off of craigslist. Went picked it up and came home. So now I went to open it up and clean it and what do you think I find inside? There was a PCB V3 chip inside the unit. The unit was giving me DRE problem before hand so I wanted to give the internal a look over. Now I find this chip in there. So I took the chip out and all is well.

What's also cool is the system has a toggle switch in the back for region changing. I think I got an awesome deal here. But I do wonder, is the chip faulty? Before every game booted as an audio CD, and now they all boot flawlessly. All the connections were solid so I am unsure.. I wanted to install it in my model 1 but am now concerned.

Did you try and use it with the ribbon cable inserted the other way?

I did try but nothing worked. I popped it in my model 1 and it worked but in the model 2 I get issues. Personally I like the one that RacketBoy sells better. RB's chip seems to recognize games faster.

$20 for a NTSC-J Saturn is a hell of a deal, but with a hard region switch installed, you really lucked out. Nice find.

I might have to replace the switch as sometimes it doesn't work. The region switch was located in the back where you insert the battery. So you don't see it unless you pop the bay open.

But I thought it'd be a run down console when I bought it, but it's going strong as well.

Not to double post but can anyone help me with this memory card that came with the Saturn? It's says it's 8MB but I can't get it to be recognized by any of my Saturns. I also don't have any RAM compatible games to try this out to see if it's a RAM card.

That's styled like a save card and there's no such thing as an 8 meg ram cart. Are the pins clean on the cart? Is it not recognized at all in the memory manager?

I've taken it apart, cleaned the pins with DeOxit, applied ProGold, and re-assembled it. On none of my five Saturn's is it recognized. The seller told me the cart worked the last time he tried it, but that was a while back.

I'll keep playing around with it.

After playing with the card for a few days, I can't get the systems to recognize it. Maybe it's fried?

Could have gotten static zapped or something.
