Data Transfer to Wii U from a softmodded Wii

Post by ElkinFencer10 »

So I haven't transferred my Wii data to my Wii U yet because I've got my Wii softmodded and I was a bit uneasy about transferring that to my Wii U. Does anyone know if it will damage/brick/annihilate my Wii U if I transfer the data from my Wii? I read on some random forum that it just won't transfer any non-official data or programs, but I don't trust random forums as much as I trust the guys and gals here, so I wanted a Racketboy forum opinion. Thanks guys.

In terms of bricking your console, no, Nintendo would never do something like that. It's not in their interest to do so.

What kind of data are you trying to transfer?

I can't say for sure but it should transfer any user created data such as saved games, settings, wiiware, vc titles etc. Now, this is where it gets interesting, I'm assuming that if you have any 'hacked' WADS (VC or Wiiware executables basically) they would transfer but since you don't have the relevant licences to run these particular titles then they would simply refuse to run on your new console, they would still be there though, now depending on whether the Wii-U has any sort of whitelist or ignores wad IDs of a certain range (IE homebrew) then it might bring your hombrew over as well. Again they won't run though as it doesn't have the right elevation to run unsigned code and therefore they won't/can't cause any damage. It's like trying to run the data on a brand new unhacked Wii. Likewise, the data transfer shouldn't be transferring anything relating to CIOS or other such data since this has nothing to do with the user and is system data. It would be a pretty epic fail if Nintendo are copying all this data across. It's insecure, not to mention totally redundant.
