Saturn Action Replay 4m Plus: Way to check its ship date?

Post by Teknoman »

I recently read a few posts on another forum that certain versions of the cartridge ( manufactured or shipped(?) before 04.16.1998) have some RAM compatibility issues with games like the Dungeons and Dragons collection along with Vampire Savior.

Is there any way to tell what date the cartridge was manufactured or shipped, or can you just tell by the action replay firmware (mine is 2.01)? Its got the parallel port on top of the cart if that makes any difference.

The cart has worked perfectly fine so far, playing import and holding backup saves with no problems whatsoever. The thought just crossed my mind when checking out some videos of D&D...since I wouldnt want to go after it, if I needed a new 4m Plus in the first place :P

Look for a page that says how to do the mod that fixes it so Vampire Saviour works and it might tell you how to determine.

All I could find was this:

http://www.shinforce.com/saturn/informa ... AM-mod.htm

Doesnt really say anything about how to find out...so I guess the best way is to just find a fairly cheap (by saturn import standards anyway) game that requires a ram cart, and see if it works...

Yes it does tell you. If you open it up and the board looks like that top picture, you have an old one. Then it shows you how to fix it.

Oh duh  I was thinking something along the lines of a number imprinted in the plastic or something. After taking the cart apart, it doesn't seem like it has the trace set up in picture 1, so I guess i'm in the clear. Its closer to picture 3 in that the trace that the guide recommends to cut, isnt on my board, and its already got a trace leading between the two points where the guide recommends to solder the wire.
