Anyone going to dump the wii now that wii u is out

Post by mas »

I was just wondering if anybody is going to drop the wii now that wii u is out. I was going to sell mine since my kids never play it anymore but seeing what classics I owned I cant let it go. I think its the right time to get a red wii and the golden classic controller and start getting gems.
In a year or so nintendo will drop online and it will be just another system like the gamecube and every other dead system.
Im going to get 007 and sega kart racing and tennis to start. Maybe today since its sunday and its buy 2 get 1 at gamestop.
Well who else is going to buy or keep or get rid of the wii and what are you guys going to get next. Thanks for reading

I already been digging through the wii game catalog, picking up the good stuff cheap now.Like Data east classics, but the biggest reason is the homebrew on the wii.Tecmo super bowl 2k14 will hav a place next year.No more deleted baseball stars super teams, with save states.

One thing that will be new when the Wii dies is that it will likely be the first console with an established online store to lose online functionality (unless the PSP beats it to the punch). It will be interesting to see how gamers, and in particular the retro gaming community, react to no longer being able to access any digital content beyond what they already have on their SD cards.

Has Nintendo announced that they are dropping the Wii's online compatibility? I mean, what does it cost them?

No online Mario Kart would be a bummer.

Personally, I don't see any reason to sell the Wii. First, the market is nill - used Wii's fetch next to nothing and it will only get worse in the next couple of years. Also, the GameCube compatibility plus homebrew stuff adds value.

I do agree with grabbing Wii games on the cheap but since the WiiU still plays them I don't think you'll see a big drop right away.

The Wii is my partner's and she's going to be selling it to her brother. We don't really see the point in keeping it since A - The Wii U is backwards compatible, B - We hardly play on it anyways and C - Between us we have 2 Gamecubes, so don't need to keep it for playing GC games.

Nah I'll keep my Wii. I had originally intended to keep it around because playing Wii games on the WiiU when it didn't do anything for them just seemed pointless but now that it does upscale them to a degree I'll approach it differently.

I'll mostly be using my Wii for homebrew, emulation and Gamecube games since I can play those in 480p through the Wii (no way am I spending the money on Gamecube cables). I'm going to hunt down a CRT TV at local resale shops and move the Wii to my bedroom.

Yeah so pretty much this, I might as well keep it as a collectible and get some use out of it.

I think Wii online support will go away once the Wii U is established as the main Nintendo console in the market. No hurry to get a Wii U at this stage, the price will certainly drop later on.

Either way, I am keeping my vertical Wii especially because of the Gamecube controller ports for the Wii games that use the GC controllers. With a PS1/PS2 adapter I have a huge selection of controllers and Arcade Sticks that would no longer work with the Wii games on the Wii U. Eventually a new PSX Pro Classic Controller adapter might come out, but as in the Wii Classic Controller compatible games a limited support.

I just bought a Wii U on Fri and so far so good. I will not be dumping my Wii due to being able to play GC games in progressive mode.
