I thought this would be an especially interesting thread. What game franchises, preferably long-running, have had all or almost all of their games hold their value?
The two that come to mind for me are the Tales of series and the Legend of Zelda series. All of the games in the series rarely go for under 20-25 dollars at retail.
A lot of games these days can be found for 10 dollars or less, even the best games of this generation. Which franchises have a large selection of games demanding a pretty penny?

Re: Game Franchises That Hold Their Value
I wouldn't say that a $20-25 game is "holding its value" if it originally sold for $50-60. And I'm under the impression that $20 for the original Zelda is a higher-than-average cost.
But any game put out by Working Designs is generally valuable, but that's not exactly looking at titles as a series. Lunar Dragon Song or the PS2 Arc the Lad titles probably aren't going to become super-valuable anytime soon.

I'm definitely using "holding its value" loosely here but the point is 20-25 is more expensive than a lot of older games. Just look at Super Mario World, great game but only 10 dollars.Nemoide wrote:I wouldn't say that a $20-25 game is "holding its value" if it originally sold for $50-60. Some Shin Megami Tensei games are pretty expensive. Not the Persona games; the regular SMT franchise.

Aleste games and others that are tangentially related. They've had ups and downs but many are pricey to get and the SCD installment has been going up the past few years. The NES one is still cheap, but it has trickled up a little bit.

Re: Game Franchises That Hold Their Value
You could almost say that most JRPGs are usually 25-35% cheaper as used when they are still new/relatively new (still cost something like 25-40, while other games drop to 5-10 range), and after many years are anywhere from 5-15% cheaper than originally to 10-20% more expensive than originally, some more sought after and rare games might exceed that.

I would include SNES RPGs in there, too. Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy III (VI) goes for a bit.BoneSnapDeez wrote:AES games
