It's not even dudebro. The fact that people don't put up with limited saves where you lose progress is what killed survival horror. Final Fantasy XIII still had save points, but from a progress perspective if you lost in a fight you got to restart from right before the encounter so you could skip it or backtrack and level up some more. There's no more survival.

Well, ZombiU looks to be more of a survival game than what we've had as of late. It's incredibly easy to die in that game, and when you die, you lose all your stuff, and appear as a new survivor. You can actually go find the old zombie-you and kill them to get your stuff back. Guns are a last resort.

If I'm honest, with the success of Dark Souls and the upcoming ZombiU looking the way it does. I'd suspect we'll see at least a slight resurgence of survival horror games. People are starting to buy into the "dying is fun" thing again.

The corpse run is more palatable for people than "you died, reload your save from 30 minutes back". You're better off not having to do it, but it gives you a retry if you screw up. And I doubt even that will ever be mainstream.

I some times wish Persona had something like that. Clear 8 floors, level up 2-3 times, find a few new awesome personas. No problem what so ever. And then some rare hard monster ambushes you, gets lucky and attacks your weak point and wipes your party :) There are some monsters that cheat in P4 (Even if you hit them first, they still get the first move).

Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

The only monsters I could remember that cheat in P3/P4 were the golden shadows, and those aren't really a threat to you dying.

For some reason the megami tensei wikia does not have an article on the Persona 4 version of Wondrous Magus. Anyways those come in packs of 3-4 (maybe even 5?) and always get the first hit and always start with an AOE elemental spell (I think they know all the 4 elemental AOE attacks so it's a 3/4 chance that one of your party members weakness gets selected) and after that use an Agilao/Bufula/Zionga/Garudyne on the downed party member to kill them. It's not weak to anything and has relatively high HP so Yosuke cant die and has to have Tentarafoo (confuse all enemies)

Ahh, I'd forgotten about those guys. I don't recall having too many problems with them, but then again I haven't played P4 since it came out. Maybe they'll kick my ass in Golden.

Slow Decay would be a really good title for a survival horror game.
