sega cd model 1 and 2 help please
sega cd model 1 and 2 help please
ok so I have a model 2 sega with model 2 sega cd and after the system warms up for about 15 minits the graphics get really glitchy on some games like ecco, mortal kombat ext.. but sonic cd plays great all day if I wanted. So I was thinking the model 2 has bad caps but not sure. So I went out today and found a model 1 sega with model 1 sega cd and this system wont play any music cds, or music in the games but it does do the sound effects. I'm now lost on what to do and about ready to give up on sega cd forever. Also I did try my model 2 gens with the model 1 sega cd and still no music on music cd's of games. can anybody help me with this any ideas would be great, and I did clean all the connectors on the systems. I really would love to get eather system working 100%. Thanks for your time and help.

Model 1 Gen + SCD you have to run a cable from the headphone jack into the 'mixing' port, then use the RCA output on the SCD to get all of the sound. Model 2 Gen + SCD you can just take the RCA output from the SCD.

The sound effects are coming from the Genesis. CD sound comes from the SCD. That's why you have to pipe the sound from the Gen 1 through the SCD and use the RCA outputs with the other cord. A Gen 2 does this internally, but you still need to use the RCA jacks on the SCD to get all of the sound. As you said, maybe some bad caps making things break up or could be a cold solder joint that opens up just a little once things heat up. Dunno for sure.

on my model one sega I dont think the way its hooked up is the issue the rf switch should work for the sound with the sega cd without the other audio cables. the sega games work fine and ecco on the sega cd you can hear him dash and all that just no music.I have been messing with it since I got home tonight and I feel lost lol.

No you don't. That's just to get stereo sound instead of mono.Hobie-wan wrote:Model 1 Gen + SCD you have to run a cable from the headphone jack into the 'mixing' port, then use the RCA output on the SCD to get all of the sound.
So you cleaned the connectors and hooked everything up correctly. It could be a caps thing (that would be my guess). Why didn't you ask to test the model 1 Sega CD before you bought it?

Hmm ok, I swear I read you get no sound effects at all. and I've always just hooked everything up. I don't have a manual for my SCD.Breetai wrote:No you don't. That's just to get stereo sound instead of mono.

There's a PDF manual linked in the Racketboy 101 article for the Sega CD. Honestly, I thought the same thing you did and went to verify...but it does specify for stereo sound.Hobie-wan wrote:Hmm ok, I swear I read you get no sound effects at all. and I've always just hooked everything up. ok so I hooked up my model 1 gen with the model 2 sega cd and that works perfect no problems at all so now I just have to figure out what is going on with the model 1 sega cd I tried it with both model 1 and model 2 gens and still no music but I get all the sound effects.
