What CPU cooler should I buy?...

I want it to be as silent as possible while still performing well...

Water-cooled is great for being quiet. I have a Corsair H60 and it is tons quieter than the air-cooled solution I had before.

It also has the added effect of lowering ambient temperature around your CPU and it therefore reduced the workload on the GPU making that fan quieter too.

I know Corsair already made a name as one of the best PSU suppliers.

So I guess they are definitely an option for CPU cooling too... ^^

Don't think all CPU coolers are compatible with all CPUs / motherboards - correct me if I'm wrong.

So here's what I have for the moment:

MSI G41TM-E43 with Intel Pentium Dual-Core E6500 2.93Ghz.

Keep those suggestions coming boys... ^^

One of my friends took the sides off his tower, then placed it between two silent induction fans

If I had too much money to burn that would defo be an option.

As it is, I'd prefer a cheaper option if you don't mind...

Must say, this looks promising: Sandia Cooler

No price or release date though... :|

A more affordable oil immersion system:

I'm half tempted to snag it myself, maybe once SSDs get large enough that I can use one for my system drive.

Interesting, I wonder how it would perform when actually in a case. The airflow would be odd, but I have no idea what sort of effect that would have.

I have a coolermaster hyper 212 on my desktop, on it's own its not super quiet. But I sprung for a noise dampening case and that's made a huge difference. It's nice not hearing all the other sounds like the dvd drive spinning up or the gpu fans.
