What are the console best horror games?

Post by Retrogamer0001 »

This is a genre that I am really starting to get into, and would love to hear some suggestions by you guys for console gaming. I recently bought Clock Tower 2, Haunting Ground, and Kuon on the Ps2. What do you guys think are the best horror games on a console?

Resident Evil Remake seems a popular recommendation around here. It's on the Gamecube and may be the best classic style RE game based on what I've heard. If you like a little more action with your horror, then Resident Evil 4 is a must play

There's also the Silent Hill series, Eternal Darkness (Gamecube), Dino Crisis (Playstation), Dino Crisis 2 (it's more action oriented, like Resident Evil 4), Dead Space (though I personally found it a bit overrated). Comdemned is kind of a horror game, but in a more realistic sense as you are dealing with actual people coming at you in the dark and trying to kill you. There's also Alan Wake (Fighting creepy shadow creatures in the dark that are damaged by light from your flashlight). If you want horror with comedy and action, there's Shadows of the Damned. It's not one of my favorites, but is quite popular. The Dead Rising games are heavily Romero inspired, and let you fight zombies with melee combat. There's also the Left for Dead series for co-op horror. There's the Walking Dead episodes for something reminiscent of PC adventure games. Last but not least, if you want to play something where YOU'RE the monster, there's The Darkness and The Darkness 2.

Ack will have PLENTY of recommendations for you I'm sure

Sounds like you're already familiar with the Clock Tower series.. but I thought I'd mention Clock Tower for PS1 as it's one of my very favorite console horror games.

Zombies ate My Neighbors is pretty great.. although not scary in the modern horror game sense.

Haha! I'm actually pretty familiar with most of them, but you guys always seem to bring some weird/obscure/awesome game to my attention. I know the PC has a ton of obscure horror titles, but there are always a few hidden console ones too. Keep em coming!

Manhunt is one of my favorite horror games. The gameplay consists of both stealth and shooting sequences. It has a really good atmosphere and music too, the soundtrack is similar to early John carpenter films. It provides quite a good challenge as well.
I've heard that the Suffering 1 and 2 are good, but I haven't played them personally because I can't find them.
Another good one is Galerians one the ps1, fans of traditional horror games like Silent hill and Resident evil will most likely enjoy it, since the style of gameplay is the same.

Eternal Darkness:Sanity's Requiem for GC seems to be a nice horror gem.

Thief 3 was ported to Xbox. It's a stealth game but it still has some scary moments and creepy athmosphere. Some levels have normal human enemies, others have undead enemies. Actually the fact that it's a stealth game only helps with the athmosphere. All three games have some intense moments, but 1&2 are only available on the PC.
There are some creepy enemies
Many people say that Shalebridge Cradle is one of the scariest levels of any game

Try cursed mountain for the wii. Its sort of like silent hill and project zero.
The Thing is great too. It's one of my favourites from last gen. It's like a squad based shooter meets survival horror it's pretty challenging.
Also ghost hunter on ps2 is one I just picked up recently on a hunch. It's actually pretty cool. Nothing new for survival horror fans but its got some cool characters, weapons and enemies. It's a bit more light hearted then most other survival horror games.
