Any Apple II experts?

Post by MrPopo »

Alright, so I snagged the disk images for the Bard's Tale trilogy out of the Bard's Tale (2005) release on Steam today. I've got KEGS setup with the necessary ROM file, and I can get every game to run properly. Here's the thing, though.

If I open the command menu (ctrl + option + esc) and set the startup to slot 5, it will launch the game in slot 5 whenever I launch KEGS (BT1 & 2 are slot 5). The problem is that I only get a half second to pull open the command menu before the game loads, as once the game is open I can no longer open the command window. If I launch BT3 through slot 6 then I still have command menu access. If I set the startup to be Scan then it will dump me to a command line, and so far I haven't had any luck in figuring out how to tell it to launch the game located in slot 5 disk 1. What I'd ideally like to do is have my shortcut launch KEGS from a neutral state where I can then manually launch the game I want (and do whatever necessary disk swapping) and not have to worry about hitting the command menu when I start up.

On the Apple IIGS, you can hold down the Option key when booting, and you should immediately be presented with the control panel. Does that help?
