sealed games discussion

I know this is a bit of a taboo subject amongst the general gaming community, but it's news all the same, and may interest the small minority to whom it applies.

A new forum site has recently just been set up aimed at collector's who prefer to collect factory sealed video-games, called Sealed Game Heaven ( http://forum.sealedgameheaven.com , http://www.sealedgameheaven.com ), and has already so far been reported on by Kotaku.com; InsertCredit.com; And also BitParade

The forum features in-depth guides and discussions regarding sealed games from all regions, as well as useful information regarding what to look out for, as well as the differences between factory seals and reseals. It also has another section where members have posted pictures of their impressive sealed game collections for your viewing pleasure!

Even if you are not a fan of this unique collecting phenomenon, it may still fascinate you or even provide enlightenment!

So what do you think about this type of collecting games?

i dunno much about this topic, but i think someone is selling a sealed mario kart for snes in the buy/sell forum for like $200,000,000. i guess people pay it!

I think it is kinda neat for historical sake. However, you figure the prices they are paying to collect these is OUTRAGEOUS (ie: probably over $100 for many when I can get a working cart for $3 at Goodwill!)

It really boils down to how serious one is. In this case, you can't even view any artwork that comes along with it. Its almost a pissing contest.

Oh well, my NES carts that are bare at least make me look a little less crazy....

I don't think I own a single sealed game in my collection. I like to think I play all of my games, and any that I don't feel like I'm ever gonna play get sold. I'd only keep a game sealed if it was a spare and already mega rare, in which case I'd probably sell it for crazy money which could go towards even more games =)

I own 3:
Star Voyager for the 5400
Galaxian for the 5400
Final Fantasy 5 for the Super Famicom

Together I payed forty for them over the course of about five years. The Atari games are obvious why they are still in plastic - both of those games are not worth opening for there are better ports. FF5 has sentimental value and it goes nice with the coldcast.

I mostly buy games to enjoy them, but when I see a sealed game for a long past generation, if it is reasonably priced I will buy it. And if I have a friend who likes that game I will give or sell it to them. So maybe I am not the best to join in the sealed game discussions. I am not opposed to people doing it, it just really is not my bag. But I am looking for a FDS copy of the original Zelda with the box...

how are you to know if your game is really sealed or not, you could easily take a game box that is in very good/perfection condition and seal without a trace of difference.

we have hundreds of facts where you know exactly if it is a real seal or a reseal !

I had a sealed copy of Street Fighter 2: Champions Edition for Genesis and opened it. That's not really worth much though. If it was something like Cheetahmen 2 or Radiant Silvergun I would sell it for mad money.

There is the problem with sealed and graded games. There simply arn't enough out there worth sealing and grading. Sure, if i had a copy of chrono trigger sealed, I'd get it graded. Burning rangers... might get it graded.... MOST just games aren't worth it.

Its very different from comics that were purchased in the 1960s and actually survived. Those are worth it.

I like having games that are complete with a pretty box and manual to show off, and I even like having one that's rare or exotic, but the main reason I'm into games is to PLAY them. Having a game only for show-off factor that you can't even play just doesn't click for me.

I'll sell a sealed game to someone who'll pay $$$ for it in a heartbeat, though!
