Re: Resident evil 4 weapon strategy
When I first played the game in 2005 I would go for the next unlocked weapon and trade in, but now when I play I keep the default Pistol and ignore the Punisher and wait for the Red9. Shotty wise I ignore the Combat one and wait for the Striker, as by then the normal Shotgun is maxed out so it sells quite well. I never touch the Uzi, nor the Mine Thrower or basic rifle. I don't really use the magnums either, maybe if I find one like in the locked tower in the castle just after Ashley does her solo mission. I do however (when I play now) always keep a Rocket Launcher handy. This is for any bosses that eat up ammo like Salazar. So I stick to:
-Pistol/Red9
-Shotgun/Striker
-Semi-automatic Rifle with scope
-Rocket Launcher
-Pistol/Red9
-Shotgun/Striker
-Semi-automatic Rifle with scope
-Rocket Launcher

Re: Resident evil 4 weapon strategy
Playing for the first time atm, just sold my handgun to get a Magnum not realizing that they dont use the same ammo. So now I face a bit of a challenge as I'm out of ammo for everything, got no recent save to go back too and dont have enough cash for a bigger case and another handgun.
Balls I say.

As far as the pistol, the Red9 is the best power-wise. The standard shotgun suffices until you get the Striker. Any SMG's are weak and suck, so don't waste money on them.
I wouldn't buy one, but hold onto the magnum, 'cause it deals good, accurate damage, and doesn't take up the space of a rifle; also max out your attache case size ASAP, you'll be glad you did.
After you beat the game, and it becomes available, the Chicago Typewriter is the only thing you need.

This is honestly all that you need to know. You can at least get by with any weapon except for these. My best advise is to try to hold on to all of the weapons that you can, everything has its uses (except the aforementioned SMG).foxhound1022 wrote:Any SMG's are weak and suck, so don't waste money on them.

How far in are you? That happened to me when a started the game. Now I make sure to keep rotating between 2 save files incase a need to go back and be more conservative with ammo or health items.Curlypaul wrote:Playing for the first time atm, just sold my handgun to get a Magnum not realizing that they dont use the same ammo. Yeah I sold the punisher and currently I am using shotgun standard pistol and rifle. Oh and also, are the ammo drops dependent on what what weapons you have? say if I were to sell my pistol and just use rifle and shot gun would I stop getting pistol ammo drops?
Re: Resident evil 4 weapon strategy
Resident Evil 4 is very generous with both of those types of items, it would be very difficult to screw yourself that way.Goregasm wrote: How far in are you? No, drops aren't dependent on the type of guns you're carrying. You'll end up with boatloads of ammo for the guns you don't have in any case.Goregasm wrote: Yeah I sold the punisher and currently I am using shotgun standard pistol and rifle. Re: Resident evil 4 weapon strategy
I've just got inside the castle, so not too far. I have a save from a couple of hours previous to this so its not the end of the world if I have to go back.
Last time I played I fought the guy in the cell and wasted a load of ammo before I realized I should be ringing the bell, I played on until I got to the big room with the square pools in it. Didn't quite have enough ammo to get thru there, but I turned it off without saving. Next time I do the guy in the cell I should be able to conserve more ammo so I'll have a go at getting thru to the next merchant.
Its been years since I played an RE game and forgot how wise it was to make multiple saves - foreknowledge makes a huge difference in these games.

Generally its very generous, but I've still managed to screw myself up by doing something stupid lolDylan wrote: Resident Evil 4 is very generous with both of those types of items, it would be very difficult to screw yourself that way.
Re: Resident evil 4 weapon strategy
I will concede that. I remember two occasions on which I blasted through nearly all of my Magnum ammo and nearly all of my shotgun ammo trying to kill invulnerable enemies.Curlypaul wrote:Generally its very generous, but I've still managed to screw myself up by doing something stupid lolDylan wrote: Resident Evil 4 is very generous with both of those types of items, it would be very difficult to screw yourself that way.
