[FIXED] PAL Gamecube Brightness Issues

Post by Kai7os »

Hey! ^^

I've been having problems with my PAL gamecubes brightness levels.
The official cable I got with the system went missing and with another one I have I get the same brightness Issue (I believe the cable is from my NTSC N64 tho im not sure..) so I bought a cable off ebay and forgot about it until recently.
Now I've read online (and here too I believe) that I can fix the issue by soldering a 75 ohm resister somewhere on the cable or something?

This is the cable from ebay:

this is the official one i've got which I suspect is from my NTSC N64:

Both Cables work perfectly with my SNES. Colors are correct and theres no problems at all..
I would have suspected the console itself but the thing is Ive got 2 PAL gamecubes with a 3rd NTSC on its way and both PAL systems have the same issue..

So where exactly am I suppose to solder a 75 ohm resistor to the cable?

UPDATE:

I've done the mod and it worked! here are some pictures:

Don't mind my lame skills  im a bit of a noob as I've stated before =P

If there are no resistors or similar, it should be an NTSC cable. NTSC Gamecube sends video directly to the TV. The hardware models have well known internal differences.

NTSC
s-video
English/Japanese*

PAL
RGB
European languages (cannot be set to Japanese)

*Toggled with a board jumper similar to Genesis/Megadrive. Affects region code, compatibility issues in some JPN games, and switches language of supported games (like NTSC Starfox Adventures).

Question is if this cable could be modded with a resistor and work properly?

I think so. Composite is just one video wire.

But try SCART if your TV has it. RGB looks far better than modding this cable could ever hope.

Basically you mean "Buy an RGB Cable" right?

Will this do?

I still want to Mod the cable tho.. Where exactly am I suppose to solder the resistor??

Most likely the yellow wire, common color to indicate composite.
Some situations call for a capacitor also.

That RGB cable looks normal to me. But I can't help you with it.
Mine is for NTSC SNES, won't work right on any Gamecube.

I solder it to the upper black cable?
I'm kinda lost with this TBH.. I'm a newbie haha

Basically solder the Resistor to the yellow cable (Composite) and the other one to the black cable (Luminance)?

BTW heres a diagram of the connector http://gamesx.com/wiki/doku.php?id=av:nintendomultiav

I'm not sure. I lack skills or PAL consoles to find out.
