What Would You Like To See From Racketboy in 2008?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

What Would You Like To See From Racketboy in 2008?

Post by racketboy »

Just looking for general feedback....
What topics should I focus on?
What series should I try to complete?
What additional features would you like to see?
What else comes to mind?

I don't know if all of you are aware of it, but I have my game database in development.
It will, if all goes well, eventually let you be able to keep track of you collections, wantlists, & give recommendations.
What type of features would be most valuable to you in that kind of service?

The game data base sounds great! If we can have our collections listed it would make trading alot easier, but we may need a way to give feedback to our fellow traders. Are you thinking about making the pofiles more customizable to accomodate these features?

I would like to see best of genre lists cross platform. Maybe we can do some voting in the forums or something. Best old school rpg's especially!!!

As a whole, you really hit all alot of good stuff this year. i've been reading your site for a long time, but becasue of the content this year I decided to join the forum discussions. good work. keep on keepin on.

I think a solid way for us to link between each others collections is a great idea. Social networkin for retro gamers. Another idea I had was a dedicated report on Otaku/Sega gaming culture. Let me explain what I mean. Let me know what you think.

We've discussed this at length in a forum topic relating to our personal reasons for our current gaming addiction. There were alot of us who had exactly these same common reasons. I understand this does not include the majority of retro gamers but I think its interesting to consider these similar influences in many :

A : When Nintendo was out we played it but didn't have one or had limited access. Most of us REALLY wanted one and denial at this age has caused a lifelong habit! It also puts us all in sort of an age range.

B : Sega Genesis was our first system at home.

C : We are Sega fans deep down. If it were 1993-96 we would be happy again.

D : Because of the above Sega devotion we were forced to import games for Saturn. Most of us love importing Japanese Sega games. Because of this Japanese game culture shaped our tastes for games.

E : A trip to Akihabara or Den Den Town in Osaka is pure heaven. Thats less observation and mostly fact :)

Its interesting to think about how we came to be and where we will all go. I wonder if we are all very similar in personality or completely different.

I think what you have been doing so far has been great RB.

I'd love to see comparisons of the same game on various systems myself i.e. SF2 on Snes/MD/PC Engine. Show what the differences are and what the best version is (is Tetris DX the best version of the game?).

Loving the fan artwork articles.

I love the guides you have done like: http://www.racketboy.com/retro/2007/05/ ... zsnes.html. I would love to see more of these myself.

this is an awesome site and I love your articles on retro gaming. I really think you should look into doing the whole 'web 2.0' thing and do video segments and specials on various retro articles, like top 10s, best games of a certain genre etc

More Cowbell? Though my real suggestion is more arcade and classic pc games.

The database sounds great, I'd especially be interested in a swapsies section.

As for the blog the articles I've found most useful are the essential/hidden gems pages and I'd like to see more perhaps focussing on some of the more obscure systems.
I'm pretty interested in the tech/modding pages also as I like any old excuse to crack the case open and heat up my soldering iron. Now that the CD based systems are getting older any info on where to buy replacment parts and fit them is always going to be useful

I'd love to see a PS2 hidden gems list and an "essential imports" list.
