Flea market?

Post by someone3760 »

Whenever you guys go to a flea market, do you guys see an original nes? I am going to go to a big one this weekend, and was wondering what you guys think. I know its most likely a chance that a nes will be there, but what are the prices usually at flea markets?

$30 and below are fair for a complete system with no games, or maybe with SMB/Duck Hunt. If it's a top loader it's worth more than that, I think like $50.

Go to the specialized game seller last, usually they have the best selection but a lot higher price. The best stalls are where someone is cleaning out a garage or a rental storage reclaim lot. You can spot the storage sells, usually takes up at least three units with long plywood tables at the Swap Meet.

what a bizarre question...

but, yeah, usually i see an NES when i go to flea markets. huge market penetration in its heyday plus a recent resurgence in interest in retro gaming makes for lots of available consoles.

This...is great advice. Know current market prices for the games you want when you arrive. Even the stingiest dealers do not always keep abreast of market trends, and you may be able to find some deals among otherwise over-priced games. (I love it when I go to a flea market and see boxes of games marked $5 each. While 90% of the games in the box are likely overpriced, there are usually some games that have appreciated significantly since the dealer threw them in the box. The dealers are not particularly attached to those games as well; so, you can usually talk down the price a bit, especially if you are buying more than one.)

Also, ARRIVE AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE. Many game sellers will make a quick pass through the booths as soon as they arrive and try to pick off any deals. If you really want to get things for a good price, you really need to arrive as soon as the flea market opens.

Or bring a phone with an internet browser. VGPC is great for making sure you aren't getting ripped off when shopping. It's not 100% accurate, of course, and you have to keep in mind that buying in person you may need to pay a little extra compared to online, but it'll keep you from overpaying by $10 accidentally.

It depends on the flea market. Just go and see what there is to see.

If there's someone there who deals specifically with video games then I suppose it's likely since those games are pretty common.

Since an official Goodwill store opened in my area a few months back, I haven't had to go to the flea market or yard sale hunting. The place is fantastic for finding old games, CDs, and movies for dirt-cheap. And all the disc-based games are always complete.
