007 Legends/Whatever happened to Sixth-Gen style?

Post by Gooseberrysoda »

Despite the fact that there hasn't been a great Bond game since Nightfire, I can't help but get excited to play through all of those classic movies as Daniel Craig. Haven't seen much gameplay, but if it plays anything like a sixth-generation shooter, we're in luck.

Now that's something I haven't thought about in a while- why are all FPS games so different than they were in the previous console generation? The timesplitters series, Halo 1, Nightfire, Rouge Agent, Metroid Prime, and Medal of Honor Frontline all have a different, more "arcadey" feel to them- does anyone know what I'm saying? I miss that. The reason I don't like CoD or Battlefield is because they don't maintain that fun style, preferring to ditch it for this floaty, lightweight mechanic.

Maybe I'm just crazy, but if anyone feels like they know what I'm saying, can you recommend a modern FPS that feels like it came out in 2004?
Sega Genesis (Model 2), Sega CD, Sega 32X, SNES, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Game Boy Family, Phillips CD-i Model 910, NES, Atari 5200, Virtual Boy, Atari Jaguar, Playstations 3-4

Counter Strike: Global Offensive, and to some extent, TF2, feel much more oldschool than a lot of the CoD clones etc.

Also try out Tribes Ascend, it's definitely fast paced and old school in spirit.
Older. Not wiser.

I don't think this is fact. Bloodstone was good IMO.

Quantum Of Solace was pretty good as well (The MP mode is pretty damn good too).

I thought Goldeneye 007 for the Wii was pretty well received, and I certainly enjoyed it... :|

Are they still making Unreal Tournament games? Last I checked they were pretty faithful to the era of shooters that you seem to like.

Yeah come on you guys, stop ignoring the best 007 game since Goldeneye 64.

Why do they feel different than they used to? It's because they want to follow what has been proven as a successful formula, that being COD4. If COD4 had been just as well received and popular as it was while feeling like a PS2 game, modern shooters would feel like PS2 games. The first big FPS hit next gen will most likely set the mold for next gen shooters as well.

Goldeneye, preferably on PS3 rather than Wii. It seriously feels like an old game.

Definately. I picked it up on a whim and definately enjoyed it although nobody plays the game online

Reloaded doesn't have the same charm that the Wii version had. I enjoyed the Wii version more, especially playing with Sevin,S1mple, and Ziggy 8)

What's different about the Wii version? I was under the impression that the PS3/360 version was merely a graphically upgraded port.

I played it a month ago and it was still pretty active. For an old non-"AAA" release at least.

one major difference i didn't like was the multi-player online capabilities/options with the PS3 version (not sure if its the same with 360). the waiting period takes longer and you need more users to start a session...and the maps were actually redesigned a bit and a few new maps were added as well. the addition graphic details of the map did not add to anything...i like it simple on the wii better. easier on the eyes.
