Monsterworld IV "Wondrgirl!" bets 16 bit game I ha

Post by chewimcdougle »

I just recently completed monsterworld IV and I HAVE TO SAY.. IT IS EASILY THE BEST 16 BIT GAME I HAVE PLAYED TO DATE.

If any of you haven't tried it yet I suggest you do..

Anyway, for those of you who know what I'm talking about. Do you know of any similar action/adventure/RPG games? I would love to find another game like it. "not including the wonderboys"

I don't know of any quite similar to it. Crusader of Centy is sorta between that and Zelda, so you might give it a try...

I've mentioned it a couple of times on the board before, but I got Wonder Boy in Monster World - which is the game before MW4 in the series, even though the names are screwed up -- when I bought my Genesis this summer and LOVED it. It's incredibly simple and I actually shouldn't have liked it but there's just some kind of charm about it.

I have heard MW4 is much better, and from what I can tell it looks much better. I would love to play it, even on an emulator. Did you play it with Japanese text? Wouldn't reading the text be pretty essential in such a game or can you just kind of figure out where to go and whatnot? What platform did you play it on?

Thanks for the replies chaps,

Crusader of Centy? I'll look into that, sounds good. Thanks.

As for monsterworld iv. I played on an emulator I'm afraid. Just couldn't get hold of an English cart for the genesis. But yes it was the English version I played.. Has to be played to be believed..

Emu is the only way to play it in English though, right? I don't think it was released in the US.

But if someone could put the English translation ROM onto a cart that would be awesome. I'm getting a guy to put the Japanese SMB2 onto an NES cart for me so I can play it on the real-deal hardware. Should be coming in the mail next week ....

A guy in Canada does it for $25. You also have to buy a donor cart and mail it to him. I know that's pretty expensive for a game I could emulate for free, or play on the VC or SMB Allstars (which I have in a box someplace...) but I wanted to try this out. NES is my No. 1 system for collecting and I figure SMB2j is as good a place as any to start. If I like it I might do some more. Here's the site:

Once I get it back and test it out I'll give my impressions someplace here on the board.

actually i bought monster world IV in english dumped on a cart from the user "bratwurst" on the sega-16 forums and was very pleased. another user on there does that with unreleased roms, and has recently done it with king colussus (the fan translated version). but for sure, monster world IV is one of the best games on the genesis! it's unfortunate that zelda II: adventure of link gave so many people a sour opinion of the platformer rpg genre...

I don't understand why so many people dislike Zelda II. I love that game. I would be so head-over-heals for a remake.
