Tekki/Steel Battalion Fans?

Post by fastbilly1 »

I know I cant be the only fan of the monster game on these forums? Sure it is not as retro as other games we talk about but there is no doubt that it will be forever ingrained into the annals of videogame history. It provides one of the best single player games experiences ever. It is also the best atmosphere for controlling a game I have experienced without being in a plane simulator - easily cheaper than one of those. If you are an arcade fan, it is a slower paced version of Battletech/Red Planet with a better physics engine.

I only got to play a friends version for a couple months, but am now working on amassing my own sets. Thats right sets. Why? Well the "sequel" Line of Contact allows for 10 player multiplayer, which was worthless on live due to bad netcode (heavily relies on your upload and required a minimum of six players I am told). This however is alleviated when dealing with a lan setup. I never got a chance to play the multiplayer but I have been told that the only thing comparable is Battletech, and I do love that. I have found several people locally selling on craigslist, and have contact each of them. It turns out that the game and sticks can be had for about $150, the multiplayer version is another $5 at your local Gamestop, and I am just borrowing some xboxes for now. Come to think about it, the sticks cost about as much as Sega's Virtual On sticks for the Saturn. If this all works out like it should, well lets just say there is an article in the works.

I think that within a years time I can get a full set of 10, with xboxes for about a grand. Just gotta get lucky and have friends all around the country equally as crazy.

So any other fans?

Well if you really are in South Carolina, you might get to see these if you come to Momocon in March - there is a topic on it in the free stuff forum. It is a convention at Georgia Tech that I am trying to get all the Racketboy folk possible to come to. Racket himself may be coming.

I did find two on Craigslist for $50 before any sort of shipping/gas is factored in.

I want to get the games along with the controller eventually. It is just one of those things that says "buy me". Apparently it can also work as a PC controller which is appealing to me as well.

I got the big ol' controller, lost my copy though, is it really worth shelling out another 50 bucks for the game though?

I have most of it, missing the left stick from my set. But since the government keeps giving me money I may just finish off mine and pick up another set.

The game can be picked up on its own at Gamestops sometimes, it goes for $5 or 10 I cannot remember. If you like big robots it is worth the money. I have not played the multiplayer yet, but if it the coop is half as good as the normal game it is well worth finding others.

There's a controller at software seconds in columbia, SC. I didn't think to ask the price.
