Nominate Your Favorite Retro Games of 2007

Post by racketboy »

It's getting close to the end of the year (I've got snow already)
Now is the time to nominate your favorite retro releases from 2007.

These games should have a commercial release in 2007 -- this may be a physical release, or a release on XBLA, Virtual Console, or PSN.

The only criteria is that the game should be mostly 2D gameplay, have a retro theme, or be a re-release of a game that is N64 or older. I'll trust your judgment on what falls into this category.

Nominate as many games as you would like -- even if it has been mentioned already. I'll tally up the nominations, choose the most popular ones and then we'll have a vote for the favorites. Sound good?

Paper Mario... best RPG I've played in a few years. I should have picked it up back when it was new, but somehow I didn't even know about it. Oh well best $10 I've spent this year.

Honorable Mentions:
TF2 - I nominate this for best looking retro-futuristic-pseudo-cel-shaded graphics!
Also, there are large swaths of Super Mario Galaxy that are in the 2D perspective, proving the genre isn't really dead, just evolving.

Castlevania Rondo of Blood original - PSP Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles

Best linear Castlevania ever and probably the best platformer adventure ever.

Theres a few games that I could nominate but I haven't played them/don't own them yet. So really all I can say in Metal Slug Anthology, I just checked Wikipedia and it came out this year for PS2. tbh I haven't played much of this game but it'll do. :?

Sega Ages 2500 Vol. 31: Virtual On. The first arcade-perfect port of this game, along with tons of extras.

It's just a nomination -- feel free to toss in names based on reviews and such.

I actually agree with the Metal Slug Anthology nomination. More people do need to give it a chance. It's a great series.

Cool idea.

Pac-Man CE - read my thoughts on Racket's Pac-Man post
Space Giraffe - Tempest gameplay, but you have to listen and percieve as much as watch
Every Extra Extend Extreme - I've played the demo a bunch. Going to buy when I get some more $

Games I haven't touched but look cool:
Contra 4 - Surely it deserves a nod
Everday Shooter
Phantom Hourglass
Bomberman Live
