Explain the different Dreamcast NSTC-U label types
I've noticed that the Dreamcast has white and black label games. What's the difference? Were they used at different times?

yes. White was first. Then later Sega used Black ones that did not say "Sega."sega dude wrote:I've noticed that the Dreamcast has white and black label games. What's the difference? Were they used at different times?
They went from branding the consoles as the "Sega Dreamcast" to just the "Dreamcast."

Also, orange is greatest hits ("All Stars"), blue is PAL (might be other colours, I don't know) and white/orange is Japanese.noiseredux wrote:yes. White was first. Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

US: White (Early Library) Black (later Releases) Orange (Sega All Stars lineup of 17 releases)
EU: Blue
JPN: Orange
South America: Orange White (its a very interesting blend... its a mix design of white US design, Orange JPN design and a lil of that Orange All Stars design).

I liked the white labels on DC games better. It was the total opposite of the DC's main adversary at the time, the PS1 which had black labels. The black DC labels were good too but I liked the first way better.
The orange All-Stars boxes were just plain ugly though, even worse than most bestseller's editions.

GTFO here with that! The O-box "Platinum Hits" looked easily the worst out of the budget releases of that console generation... WAY worse! The orange All-Stars boxes were just plain ugly though, even worse than most bestseller's editions
I actually loved how SEGA they went about the design for Sega All Stars releases. The design is kept strictly on the case spines, the orange color makes the most obvious sense and the discs weren't stripped out of their artwork, unlike PS1's Greatest Hits program
Plus, I like that these SAS design somewhat resemble JPN DC releases
