Unkink controller cables
Unkink controller cables
Hi all,
I have a ton of video game controllers I bought that have been coiled super tight for years. The cable stresses on the controller wire are bent as well. I unraveled the cable wire and it is tightly kinked in circles.
Any tips to make the wires straight again?

Re: Unkink controller cables
Put some gloves on and start pulling the cable through your hands straightening it out.
I've noticed with Sony controllers, the cable sleeves twist as well ... and fixing that would be ridiculous.
But keeping them straight will fix it. If you have the space you can set it up so there's a weight pulling on the cord and that should do wonders.
But, just doing it by hand will work ... try bending in the opposite direction at the places that are stubborn.

Have you really never straightened a cable before?

Another possibility is to hang them up in a closet for a while. Obviously you'd want to use a clip so you're not adding a new kink. Use a clothes pin to clamp the plug end up and let the controller hang and slowly straighten itself under its own weight for a while. It should be fine with pads. Obviously with any joysticks you might need to do the opposite. Put the stick on the top shelf, clamp the cord and let the other end hang. Maybe clip a little weight on the plug end there, but no more than the weight of a pad.
