I'm new to the world of cave shmups. Bought deathsmiles and I'm hooked.
Looking for suggestions of us releases of cave games. I don't currently have an imported systems and before I bite into that cookie I'd like to explore the games I can play on my standard US systems.
Did a bit of a search and didn't find a good list, so figured to ask here for help!
Thanks

Guwange - XBLA
Akai Katana Shin - 360
That's it. I would absolutely recommend importing, at least to get Mushihimesama Futari. It will play on your us console, as will several other Cave games.
I'd list all the region free shooters for the 360, but I am on my phone. Its been discussed thoroughly on shmups and even in other threads here.
Good luck!

Ahhh... Did not think to search for region free games. If I can play them, that all that really matters.
What about older systems? Was cave busy during the previous generation?

I believe DS was the first US localized CAVE game on a console.beatnix wrote:Ahhh... Did not think to search for region free games. If I can play them, that all that really matters.

DS IIX is available on US XBLA as a GOD I believe...
As far as the previous generation... the PS2 saw the release of DoDonPachi DaiOuJou, ESPgaluda, Mushihimesama and Ibara. But they are all region locked NTSC-J
IMO the 360 CAVE ports are the only ones worth seeking out. PS2 versions of DDP DOJ & galuda are good, too. (but DDP DOJ can be had for 360 and galuda emulates pretty well on MAME)
For GAMING that is!
For COLLECTING you should just buy everything all the time

Re: US releases of Cave games?
Pretty sure the xbox 360 Cave shooters that are region free are Mushihimesama Futari, Muchi Muchi Pork/Pink Sweets, and Espgaluda II. DoDonPachi Daifukkatsu was released in Europe as Dodonpachi Resurrection, and that one is region free, I believe. Also Deathsmiles II X is on XBLA in the US.
If you're looking for older Cave games on consoles, DonPachi and DoDonPachi are on the Saturn and I believe both are also on the PS1. PS2 you've got Espgaluda, Mushihimesama, DoDonPachi Daioujou, and Ibara. There also happens to be a version of Ketsui on the DS, but I don't know how it is.
Edit:

Edit:
The 360 version of DOJ is rather intensely disliked on Amazon JP. Is the PS2 version basically the same just without black label?EllertMichael wrote:PS2 versions of DDP DOJ & galuda are good, too. (but DDP DOJ can be had for 360 and galuda emulates pretty well on MAME)

Dude, definitely get DDP: Resurrection. It can be had for around $40 new. Very worth the price.

I *love* DDP Resurrection. It's probably my favorite 360 shmup that isn't Deathsmiles.foxhound1022 wrote:Dude, definitely get DDP: Resurrection. It can be had for around $40 new. Very worth the price.

I hear everyone likes it; and it's damn cheap, too.
Re: US releases of Cave games?
DOJ on 360 was disliked before it got patched. Load times are still horrible, but now it at least plays as it should. And it is most excellent.
