I've having some trouble with my Sega 32x. Whenever I try to play a game, the screen very briefly shifts as if loading a cartridge, but the screen stays black. To ensure that my Genesis wasn't the problem, I disconnected the 32x, and sure enough, the Genesis alone booted the games no problem. I know that my TV is getting *a* signal because when I try to load a game, the screen goes from saying "No Signal" to being just blank and tells me that it's running in 480i, so I know that some kind of audio/video signal is getting to the TV.
My main question is what should I try to replace first? Does it sound more likely to be a problem with the 32x itself, the composite cable, the cable connecting the Genesis and 32x, or the power supply for the 32x?

Try the recommendations of this guide, most notably the opening-up-the-32X fix.
Sadly, this is a pretty common problem for my 32X, it seems like I need to open it up and remove/re-insert the flat cables pretty often when I want to play 32X games.

Try cleaning the game then the system use a piece of cardboard with a piece of white tv wrapped around it about the size of the system slot slide in and out a few times to see what you get.

Thanks so much guys. I'll try that tomorrow morning. I just assumed it wasn't something I might be able to fix; that'll teach me to jump to conclusions. =)

I have good news, and I have bad news. The good news is that I got my 32x to work. The bad news is that I'm a damn idiot; it turns out that the problem was that the 32x's AC adapter was unplugged from the wall.

Did the games I sent your work ok? I forgot to put a Q-tip to them prior to shipping.

ID10T errors are usually the easiest to fix, once they're found at least. As long as everything is working, that's all that matters at this point.ElkinFencer10 wrote:I have good news, and I have bad news.

I haven't tested all of them (I had company over most of the day), but Mortal Kombat II works perfectly. I'll probably play the other two tomorrow.
