I've tried reading the guide on their wiki, but i'm just absolutely stumped and still can't figure out how to be connectable. Can anyone give me some straight forward info on how to fix this? i'm using qBitorrent, if it matters.

How do you connect to the internet? Does your computer connect to a router, which then connects to a cable/dsl modem? Are you on a school network? Does your cable/dsl modem also function as a router?

It's connect to a router, it's a personal network, cable based internet. my laptop's hooked up via wi-fi.

So in that case it sounds like your router is blocking the incoming connections. The UG wiki should mention which ports are required to be connectable, and you will need to forward those ports. Unfortunately, every router firmware is different, so you'd be best off searching for something like "how to forward ports for <router model>" in Google to get a guide specific to your router.

What client do you use for torrents? All of the respectable clients support UPNP and will open the ports automatically. Simply enable UPNP in the client and on your router.

*edit* I see you are using qbitorrent. It has UPNP support.
