Valkyrie-Favor's Social Isolation Chamber

Post by Valkyrie-Favor »

It's been a while since I last showed off my game room. That time was filled with work, school, and social isolation. I amused myself by accumulating a lot of things! Maybe you'll find them amusing too.

I finished high school this past summer and I'm still living with my parents. I'd like to get my own place, but my priority is to save money. :|

The computer room
I've got a Pentium 4 running XP, for early 2000s and late 90s games, and a Windows 98 machine for everything older. I also do a lot of writing in here. My monitor, speakers, keyboard, and mouse are all awesome! I'll be building a new tower when Mirror's Edge 2 comes out, but I spend a lot of time here as it is.

Panning around the room - a bit messy. I apologize for all the flashes here on out. My basement is very dark. Eyes adjust but the camera doesn't.

Image

That Mega Man wall scroll looks awesome from a distance, but the drawing is ridiculous. Sheep Man? WTF, Capcom? I needed it to cover up a blemish in the wall. The LPs are "Pyromania" by Def Leppard and "Flirtin' With Disaster" by Molly Hatchet.

One of my guitars, see the other in the older section. PS1 is used only for light gun games. That CRT was once great, but it deteriorated terribly. Some of my custom magnets and pocket tools are decorating the locker. Servant Saber and Lenneth Valkyrie overlook my room from the TV.

Image

Inside the locker are TV games, light guns, chargers, snacks, and my Hori V3 stick (PC/PS3).

Image

My laptop, very low specs but great battery life. I use this mostly for entertainment and communication, but also writing when I'm away from home. ! The figurines are SEGA scultps of Himeko and Iori from Kokoro Connect. The late 90s Creative speakers are great.

Image

DVD case used as a small bookshelf. I took this photo carefully; if you look at the full size image you'll be able to see most of the titles. In between the shelf and desk are Ghost in the Shell 1.5, Dominion: No More Noise, and 30 Days of Nights, all graphic novels.

Image

A smaller bookshelf, with a few books with my Nintendo handhelds and games. I lent Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume to someone else.

Image

Disc only PS2/GC games, plus all my Dreamcast games.

Image

PS1 games, knockoff GUMI figure, and my N64 games dance for your viewing pleasure.

Image

Rarely used, shouldn't throw away

Image

Image

I love my PSP! Yeah, I traded Xenoblade for Project Diva games and Ghost Recon. My SNES games are gone too. Once I finished them all, I traded, and all the SNES games I've played since have been emulated somehow.

Image

More board games.

Image

Image

Can you believe that's a PS2 game!? Who knows what I'm playing?

Image

All my portable systems. I play handheld more than PC and consoles combined, but I only have the mainstream Nintendo and Sony systems. As much as I'd like a NGPC or Game Gear, these are already more than I can handle. Seeing them all turned on at once brought a bizarre smile to my face.

Family room
We got a newer old projection TV, which at least has an HDMI port. This thing is huge and weighs several hundred pounds. It didn't fit through our stairwell, so we had to cut a hole in the ceiling to fit it downstairs :!: :!: :!: Terrible lag, but good picture and killer surround sound. I play PS3 and Wii games in here.

Funny story about the Super Slim PS3, my family broke the BC model.
Dad insisted on keeping it in that case with the stereo equipment you can see in the older photos. I told him it would overheat, and it would be better on top of the TV. He said it was too ugly there. Four months later it YLODs and I reflow the solder and put it back where it was. Overheats again a week later. I fix it one more time and put it on top of the TV - fine for five months.

Dad moves it again, so he can watch a movie (what?) and it once again overheats, his rented Blu-Ray still in the drive. I reflow the solder again, and he tells me that's not working. He routed about 300% more power to the fan to cool the thing down, and stuck it back into the box with the stereo receiver. It worked for five more months after that, but I didn't play it.

The thing whined so loudly it overpowered the stereo system at reasonable volumes. Everyone else turned it up to maximum volume, making it impossible to get homework done. I had to leave the house whenever anyone was watching a movie. How could they stand it?
Image

Older photos. You can see my guitar (Currently in case), my posters, and some games I don't have anymore.
Hey everyone! My game room isn't very big, but it sure is cozy. It's, well, just my room. Look, it's my not-so-awesome laptop! Plays games from 2004 at almost 30 frames per second! It's great for watching Ghost in the Shell, though.

Image

My guitars - a Fat Strat Squire and a Dean Tyrant X, whose name is Hrist. Say hello to Hrist, but don't look her in the eyes. They both have very thick Ernie Ball strings.

Image

My bed. It has mooses. Moosen? Meese?

Image

Some books. I hear reading makes you smart?

Image

NES, SNES, PS3, PC, and Game Boy shelf! I sell most of my games once I'm done with them, so it's in constant fluctuation.

Image

PS2, PSP, and Wii games. Too bad about that PS2. I have to play them on my PS3 and it whines like a banshee.

Image

PS1 and N64 games. Colony Wars is cool and you should play it.

Image

In the family room - Early HDTV with the dying PS3, NES and FC Twin. This thing has some serious problems, but apparently it will last ten more years :?

Image

And my own TV. A fairly recent Emerson set with lots of depth and brilliant colors! I saw this and I knew it had to be mine. S-Video in back, composite in front, and it has an audio out jack to my stereo. N64, Gamecube, normal PS1 (left) and JP modded PS1 (right). My dog stares at it sometimes - that used to be his spot.

Not a bad start! You need to get a camera that's less of a potato though. :P

really like your posters. Those should be framed.

Sooo. The floor next to your bed, its raised higher? I see your third pic and one side of your bed is normal and the other is the same level as your bed. Its also carpet colored.

Must be fun laying in bed and having a tv at eye level.

You still have nice things though.

dont know how to play guitar.

its your little piece of valhalla

That's right, the TV is level with the bed. I don't use it at night, though. Got to sleep sometime ;)

I just traded my extra copy of FFVII and some Super Famicom games for a Slim PS2 and a Dreamcast! That should be enough games to last me for the rest of my life.
