iControlPad

Post by wip3outguy7 »

Does anyone here on RB have one? How well do they work? I read that the current run is updated from the original release and sports a better d-pad. What's it comparable to?

Is lag a problem?

Yeah, lots of questions because reviews never seem to touch on these points.

A guy at work has one and I've messed with it. It is a nice Bluetooth controller, it felt comfortable. The way it clasps to the phone makes it really versatile which is good, but it wasn't a super tight grip.

There is some lag, it isn't drastic but if you are picky about lag it will likely bug you.

I've got one, I've used it with my Asus Transformer tablet, my old Droid 2, and my new Galaxy Nexus. Obviously the clamp only fits on the phones, but it works perfectly on all of them - no lag that I could notice anyways. The d-pad does a great job, but the big selling point, for me at least, are the analog sticks. There are very few portable controllers on the market with analog sticks, for playing N64 etc. on the go. The iCP's sticks are pretty damn good, considering their limitations. They're sliders like the PSP's, but I think they're much better, and more responsive. The only issue I have with them, is that the tops of the sticks are free spinning for some reason, and it can get distracting, though it's easy enough to get used to.

If you have any other questions, let me know, I'd be glad to help out. I really should do a proper review of it, so I'd like to hear what peoples' questions are. Perhaps that'll be the motivation I need to get the review done!

Thanks for the replies! I have been considering one. I'm going to need to upgrade from my Gen 2 iPod Touch before I do, though.

On the iphone don't forget to get Blutrol via Cydia then you can use the icontrolpad on your appstore-apps instead of the incredibly annoying touch screen controls. It's meant that I love playing Sonic CD or The Simpsons Arcade instead of getting frustrated without it and not losing 25% of the screen due to my fat fingers.

Also, all the Robert Broglia emulators are configured to work with icontrolpad, and imame4all for the iphone is easily configured too.

Top tip: if it seems like the icontrolpad isn't working (I think this might just be with Blutrol) make sure that the iphone isn't lying on its back - for some reason it doesn't work and needs to be on its side!
