Unrecognised PS1 starter screen.

Post by Demented Collector »

I picked up a PS1 at the weekend and hooked it up for testing today. when switched on this is the screen that appears :?

It won't boot up the only burnt disc I have so i'm not sure why it's different.
Can anyone shed some light on what this screen means?

Thanks in advance :)

Bit more info: it's a SCPH-9002 PAL.

That's the default BIOS screen for managing your memory card and for accessing the CD player.

If your PS1 isn't modded then it can't play pirated games, hence the reason it goes directly to the BIOS screen.

Yeah I hear what your saying, but of all the PAL PS1 consoles i've used i've never seen this screen before. It's usually a grey screen with boxed lines and the options in the middle.
Also it looks so amatuerish.

Edit: Sorry for my confusion
This is the screen that i'm used to seeing on starting up a PS1...

Thanks again

Thanks Opa Opa.

Confusion grows again :?

So I have a PAL console with a North American bios?

Does that mean it's had a multi region chip installed?

I don't have any NA games to test, it boots PAL games fine.

Early models had the grey screen. Later models had the blue screen...

Both versions were available in Europe...

Seeing as it is a 9000 model you have there it's normal it has the blue screen, since that's one of the last models...

Interesting, I never knew any PS1 consoles had anything different to the horrible grey screen. Even my PSOne has the that.

I can't check it for the moment, but if I recall correctly the blue screen version does not have the same music options the grey one has. The Church and Hall mode and stuff should be missing...

I might be wrong though...

Only the PSone has the grey screen. The others (model 900x and earlier) have the blue screen.
