Saturn Netlink Troubles

Post by lisalover1 »

Catch22's thread where he mentioned playing Saturn games over his Netlink got me thinking about the addon again. I own one, and have tried multiple tutorials on how to get it connected to the Internet, but never once have I got it to work. Has anyone ever used theirs successfully, and if so, could you give me some advice on how to get it connected to the Internet without actually paying for dialup? I have asked on sites like Saturn Netlink Leauge, but those forums are so dead that it takes ages to get a response.

When playing netlink games you're not connecting to a server, so it isn't like the DC where you run a program on your PC that handles the inbetween stuff and actually goes through the internet instead. Netlink did direct dial, so you are paying long distance charges for the phone call over analog lines. Now I don't have a netlink and haven't tried it, so I don't know if there's a hack for that too involving a modem on your PC and a program transmitting over the internet too, but as far as I know, you can only dial someone up directly.

So again, you aren't paying for some dialup internet service like you did in the 90s, you are actually dialing the person over analog phone lines and the Saturns are talking directly to each other.

Interesting. I've collected a handful of these old internet game pieces over time but never considered trying them. Makes me wonder if my modem even works or if I could get it to connect over VOIP. Managed to get an old dialup TiVO to connect via VOIP so I think a NetLink would work. :)

Anyways, keep trying Lisa, if I can help with my NetLink modem let me know.
