The God of War series is known for its brutality and violence, and has—in the past—depicted violence against women, which is rather uncommon even in videogames.

I guess they havent tried out every fighting game ever made, GTA style sand box games nor most of RPGs?

So the game cant have any female enemies or bosses (like medusas from the earlier GoW games) now because of that? That would make sense if it was a modern war game (even though there are some female soldiers in real life) or a historical war game/certain type of fantasy RPG (like Warhammer) because having women and men fighting side by side in that sort of game is in fact unrealistic/historically inaccurate, but I dont see why you cant have women fighting in a more fantasylike game like GoW. That sounds more like chauvinistic patronizing than feminism to me.

Rather than committing acts of sadism, Kratos's violence will come from necessity, not for the sheer enjoyment of it.

Some how I find that hard to believe.
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

I find it pretty easy. Kratos needs to murder people and stick his penis in them afterwards or the character would explode after a pathetic existential crisis.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. I can't believe people still get uppity over stuff like this. It's called freedom of expression. That's who Kratos is. Take away the sadism, and he's a completely different character

So a franchise built around violence, blood, brutality and female degradation (the sex mini-games) suddenly wants to clean up its act? I guess the GOW series has finally sold out. Pu**ies.

I find the self-censorship here kinda ironic in this context.

In video games, you know where nothing is real, everyone should be able to beat up on anyone. But let's see, other female enemies in old games other than fighters and RPGs, off the top of my head.

Mother Brain
Birdo (maybe)
Battletoads Dark Queen
Medusa Castlevania
Medusa Karnov
Medusa Phelios (etc)
Catwoman Batman Returns and others

And on and on.

Golden Axe comes to mind.

Indeed. Capcom took Poison out of Final Fight for SNES, but Sega left the mixed characters in Golden Axe and Streets of Rage on the Genesis.

So violence against women is unacceptable, but violence against men? Sure, no problem. They have a penis, so they don't feel pain.

Please, violence is violence. If you were worried about it, you wouldn't be playing a God of War game.
