PS3 unresponsive after game intro

So I aquired SMD ultimate collection a while ago, I can't remember the game requiring installation, after the intro screen it prompts me to press the "X" button to continue, however this does nothing.
I put this down to a faulty disc

However today I got Uncharted 3 after instaling it to the HD it does the same thing so I turned thr system off and back on, then I started the game..
I get the loading, spinning ring, icon...
Then the Naughty Dog logo animation...
The health warning...
Then this screen...

It's at this point it does the same as the other game, the "X" button is unresponsive
The PS home button works and takes you out of the game.

The PS3 is 60 or 80GB, relatively small, i have 3 demos on the drive.

Anybody have any ideas

Edit: It might even only be 40GB, no idea really

Edit 2: I've updated the system via the net and still no dice
