I recently acquired an old PS3 from my friend. It's a CECHE01 model, 60GB. I tried reflowing it, but the PS3 will only run for a little bit before YLOD'ing.
It seemed hopeless to keep going, so I've decided it's probably best to sell it.
Only problem, the mobo case is a bit mangled and the some little metal pieces are as well. With that, the back grate which encloses the HDMI port, ethernet port, and others will no longer fit. However, the PS Triple (I like that name) does run despite of it. I've tested the drive, and that still works, and also plays PS2 disks. However, like I stated earlier, it will only run at max 5 minutes. All of the other bits seem to be there, and I can even throw in a 4 foot (I think) long HDMI cable
What is the maximum resale value for this, and could I get at least $20 for it, on, say eBay?

You could get 20 bucks pretty easy, I could even see it going up as high as $40. Your best bet would probably be to sell it as a "Parts/Potentially Fixable" machine. I'd say give it a starting bid of $15 and play your luck. I don't see why you couldn't get that.

Sorry that I'm bumping a sort of old-ish thread. But I went through a similar situation with a friend. He had a 1 year old brother who stuffed like 8 disks into the tray of the PS3 and broke it. Even though it was clearly the fault of the owner and not Sony. We called Sony and they were willing to do an exchange for $100. You'll receive the same model console refurbished. I thought it might help someone who's PS3 broke. Not sure how they handle opened consoles though, but it may be worth a call.

It just needs to be re-balled ... or you can bake the entire board (re-flowing is bad because it's not even heating, this is probably why it keeps breaking) the tin solder should realign.
A broken PS3, for a BC 60GB, that is potentially fixable. $50 isn't unreasonable as an upper limit. They can go anywhere from $30-$80 broken. Just because they're not that difficult to fix, and the working backwards compatible machine is worth quite a bit.
