I am interested in purchasing a retron 3 system.
I have been researching and I heard that there is a version 1 and version 2 and that version 2 is compatiable with more games.
I cannot find a video comparing the physical differences and appearances, so I have no idea what to look for.
I'm looking here at amazon, but I'm going to hold off until I know for sure if they're selling the version 1 or version 2 model.
If anybody could help me find a version 2, or tell me if amazon is selling the version 2, that would be really great. Thanks.
Amazon links: (Red Model, interested in that color just cause it will look cool, but if I have to buy black for version 2 I will)

Re: Retron 3 Question
The Retron 3 version 1 box is larger and has a handle and a flap that opens up to show the console.
The version 2 box is smaller and has no handle or flap and says "Tri-System" instead of "3-in-1.
On the system itself the only difference I've noticed is the Retron 3 logo in the upper right corner. On the version 1 it says RETRON 3 with a capital "N" like the rest of the letters. The version 2 logo says RETROn 3 with a lowercase style "n" though it's the same size as the rest of the letters.
There are version 2s in both colors and if you're buying it brand new directly from a retailer like Amazon you should be getting the version 2. I also know for sure that Stone Age Gamer sells the version 2.

Re: Retron 3 Question
I recently got one from amazon and it came in the smaller box. I only gave it a passing thought, since I had only seen YouTube videos with the flap and all that.
I didn't even know there was two versions.

Re: Retron 3 Question
The version 2 has a newer NOAC and plays Castlevania 3. There a few other fixed compatibility issues as well.

Re: Retron 3 Question
I recently picked up a Retron 3 and for the life of me I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't play some Genesis games.
...turns out the tiny switch on the back was set to Japanese for some reason. Pushed the switch the NTSC and the games worked like a charm. Just an FYI

Yeah that's definitely worth mentioning since they don't tell you about it on the box at all.Metal Jesus wrote:I recently picked up a Retron 3 and for the life of me I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't play some Genesis games.

Re: Retron 3 Question
I'm interested in purchasing one of these but my questions mainly lie with the wireless controller it comes with. Obviously it's not going to be as nice as the original controllers, but how does it compare to other third party controllers? Is it worth using at all or just plugging in the standards? Also, with the Genesis buttons being mapped differently, how does it affect game play?
