Dead Saturn CD motor?

Post by tlandon5 »

So I recently got an ebay Saturn (oval button) model, and the CD motor refuses to spin. The laser lens moves back and forth, up and down no problem. Whenever I insert a game, there's no spinning, and a "no CD inserted" message pops up.

I've already taken it apart, and checked the ribbon and both small gray cables leading to the CD pcb. There are four little adjustable white dials on the side of the pcb.

Any ideas?

Check if the thing that holds the disc isn't sitting too low. I fixed a lot of Saturns by just reseating that thing.

How do I raise the disc holder if it's too low?

Take the cover off (pinch the sides and lift), then just pull the disc holder straight up. After you have it off, put the cover back on and get a small flathead screwdriver. You want to use the screwdriver to make sure the holder doesn't sit too low when putting it back on. It should sit just slightly above the cover; if it sits flush with the cover then it's too low.
