Connecting a SEGA Saturn to an HDTV

Hi Everybody!

Has anybody looked at the difference, in picture quality, from composite and s-video on a SEGA Saturn?

It seems newer HDTVs don't have an s-video input, just composite. I have both cables for my SEGA Saturn, although I've been looking for an HDTV with s-video and I can't seem to find one. I wish I never game away my old Sony CRT TV.

Good luck! I think s-video was somewhat abandoned as a standard a few years ago so new tvs wont have it. Best bet would be to buy something older or stick with the CRT you have.

I'm going with a SCART cable to connect it to a SCART to component adapter for my new Sony HDTV.

A word of caution a lot of flat panel HDTVS do not like 240p over component, which will result in a blank screen or massive flickering.

A good, cheap scaler to fix the 240p problem - Arcadeforge. I got their DIY kit and I'm very happy with it. Works like an XRGB, but much cheaper.

You should be able to get a great Sony FD Trintron from kijiji/craigs for $50 or less.

I reccomend the lenkeng adapters, they are cheap (50 dollars) and works great.

My s-video cables from the racket store just came in. My goodness, the picture quality is great - I'm playing on a LCD, I can't imagine how great this would look on a CRT.

My new Sony LCD HDTV does not have a 240p mode for Component, so my accessories did not work. I didn't want to purchase another upscaled. I guess Composite will have to do for now...

I just recently got a Coby 32 inch LCD HDTV, and it doesn't have S-video, which made me sad since that was the only input cable I had for my Dreamcast, so my Dreamcast it out of commission until I can save the money for a VGA box. I guess I could order a cheap composite cable, but I'd rather upgrade instead of downgrade. =P
