I'm trying to figure out what the A/V out cord is supposed to look like. The back of my Genesis looks like this:

Yet all the cables online I see look like this:

I already have one that looks like that and it's too small. Am I missing something here? Do I need some kind of converter?

That should be the system for the style Genesis you have. The Genesis 2 and 3 have a smaller A/V port. The second pictures on the Racketboy store show the connection clearly

There's a fairly substantial difference in size too. The Genesis 1 is more the size of an AT keyboard connection, and the 2 and 3 more like a PS/2.

Large din alone provides just two main options. Mono composite, or mono RGB. Sega left stereo on the headphone jack.
You'll want that plain A/V shown to get started. Far more TVs here support it.
RGB is its much higher end video. Can pay off beautifully for hardcore users, but complicated to setup in USA.
