RGB s-video stereo ultimate NES toaster 3.0

Post by Drakon »

This's a commission for a client. Currently a work in progress but mostly done.

Features:

True RGB and s-video

Stereo sound or original mono both wired to mix in the powerpak audio. I even wired it so you could build a famicom to nes adapter in such a way that this system will play extended audio from the famicom cartridge.

Audio switch on the back to switch between stereo and mono

Ability to use the powerpak on the system.

Sega genesis av port and a headphone jack for the stereo sound (rca jacks are another option I can provide)

Amazing. Do you have close-up photos of the RGB NES output?

Didn't you ever read Nintendo Power's tips on how to take a photo of your TV? :D

Rule 1: no flash!

Man, people who commission an RGB NES that retains Nintendo's infamous cartridge mechanism... Their loss.

If I spent this much on toaster (rather than toploader) it'd be the FIRST part to go. Before even thinking of PPU swapping.

What would you replace the loading mechanism with?

A standard 72 pin connector (like the toploader) mounted forwards might be possible with effort. Laseractive PAC did exactly that for Genesis games.

Except I'm getting off topic.

I didn't take the picture this's from one of my first clients. I don't even own a flatscreen.

Yes and no, if you wanted a superior cartridge slot then you'd get this done to a nes 2. People who get this done to the toaster want the full toaster experience. It's actually not as terrible as you would think. The only real downside is I had to solder the rgb ppu straight into the console because having it suspended upside down made it too easy for the chip just to fall out when it was in a socket. Yes people have built a forward facing proper nes 2 style socket into a toaster I've seen it atleast once....although it's so pointless when you can just use a nes 2.
