So I picked up a Sega Saturn with one controller at a thrift store here in Fresno about 3 months ago. Only had one game, Daytona USA and it got old quick. I searched around the net and it brought me here, I was a troll and just read about modding the saturn and its posibilities. I was pretty excited that mine was a Model 2 32 pin ver.. so I had that going for me. I used to check racketboy's saturn modchip page dayly. I had it as my home page at work just so I can see it go from "Out of Stock" to "Order Now". Fiannaly that day came.
I got my chip in the mail today and it was packaged well. I was so excited that I did'nt even eat dinner. Told the wife I was going to be workin on a game system and plugged in the soldiering iron to heat up. Got the unit appart with the 5 screws on the bottom of the console and a way I went. Im not new to modding, I hae done plenty of PSx's and xboxs and even acoumplished my PS2 with 21 wires.. yikes.
I soldered on the 2 wires and pluged in the chip and ran to the TX to test it. I got out my CD-R copy of Radient Silvergun and it booted with no issues. Then I tried Panzor Dragon 2 and it worked. I was blown away how easy it was.
Just wanted to say a big thanks to the community here and let others know how easy it is to do.
Have fun.

Modding SEGA consoles is quite fun. There are a couple of other mods you can apply to your SEGA Saturn:
- region mod (up to 4 switches)
- 50/60 Hz mod (one switch)
- CD-RW mod
Lately, a friend of mine sends me SEGA consoles from time to time and asks me if I could apply this or that mod. I have a lot of fun doing this, although I wouldn't want to do it every weekend
. For some consoles the biggest challange is to find a place were the switches can be placed, this goes especially for the 32X. If they are not inserted at the right place, you'll get trouble closing the case.
Unfortunately, Saturn modchips are very rare these days, I'm afraid the situation will get even worse. Maybe there'll be a homebrew modchip one day?
