Is Max Payne 3 as good as the original(s)?

Post by Menegrothx »

The change of scenery is something that we'll just have to deal with, but does the new Max Payne game have other wise similiar athmosphere and narrative as the original game(s)? How's the soundtrack and script?
This is what I'm looking for. The second game was OK and had it's moments but it wasnt nearly as good as the first one in my opinnion.
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

I just want to know if there is a level where he gets drugged. Wait no I don't I don't want it spoiled. I just hope he trips balls at some point in the game. It isn't a max Payne game if he doesn't.

I've heard it's a great game, and I'm relieved. It would stink if after a 9-year wait we didn't get something awesome. Max Payne is one of my favorite 3rd person shooters.

So I've finished part 1 of 3 and it's been quite fun. So far it's basically been Man on Fire: The Game, and uses a lot of the cinematic techniques that movie used (replacing the graphic novel scene transitions). Same voice actor to give continuity. My only complaint has been that your bullet time doesn't last as long as it did in Max Payne 2, so you have to make use of the cover mechanic they added to the game. The bullet time means you aren't forced into constant cover like in Gears; you have to mix it up between the two. No crazy drug trip level yet, though it wouldn't shock me based on what Max is doing to his body in between levels.

I miss the noir/insanity overtones in previous MP games. This game is a rental at best.

I've watched my brother play the max payne games for years. He recently bought Max Payne 3 and from what I've seen it looks pretty good. A little different but still cool. If you like Max Payne, check it out.
