About a 90's tv show...

Post by RCBH928 »

I am trying to find out a name of a 90s tv show, but jut can't remember its name.

It a show about time traveling where I think a 3-4 people would travel to a PARALLEL universe through portals, that would pop up at a certain time and they have through it before it shuts down.

I think it was out around '97 , and the intro might have been like a camera moving through the tunnel of the time travel portal . This show could be british .

any one knows the show I am talking about?

I find it funny that you have been a member of the site for over a year and only had two posts before this one.

Also I loved sliders as a kid. Fox had some weird shows on back then actually.

The entire series is on DVD ... but you should be aware it absolutely stinks after Season 1 ... and it only gets worse.

To be honest, I think Sliders would have been better served prepping that pilot episode as a feature length film. Because, literally, everything that happens after it is a joke.

After it switched to Sci Fi channel, it became all b-movie monsters nonsense and the entire point of the series became a big war with the Cromags ... it was just ridiculous. And they pulled a Voyager every time he finds his way home. And we all know how great Voyager is.

I LOVED this series. When it was on FOX it was fantastic, that was the first 3 seasons. Then it switched to the Sci-Fi Channel for the final 3 seasons and just sucked. By the last season there were like no original cast members left except for the black singer guy.

If it's not sliders, I might also suggest Quantum Leap.

And since you said "British", then maybe Dr. Who?

Funny thing about that, I decided to stop lurking (it's been a long time) and register for the site yesterday. When I tried to register, it said my user name was taken and my email had already been used to create an account. I thought that was strange, because I was certain that I hadn't registered here. I searched my email and found no emails from racketboy, but when I hit the "I forgot my password button" one appeared. Apparently I signed up a year ago, but have no memory and no evidence of it, other than my join date.

I think he thought it might be British because it starred Jonathan Rhys-Davies who is British (Welsh).

It is, it is Sliders!!!

I thought this was an obscure show that no body will know about . Its because it was aired around '97 on my local ENGLISH channel that hardly any one watches around here. So i thought this series must have been either old(didn't look like it) or obscure/uknown that my local tv could afford to put it on(I am not kidding, I don't think this channel reaches 5,000 viewers at any one time) . I didn't expect it to be a show on Fox.

The other reason I said it might be british is because on that channel we usually get british shows, the obscure of obscure sometimes. We are pretty much tied to the brits because we were occupied by them. Also they are much closer to us for communications and business deals than America(7 hrs flight vs 16 hrs flight) . We had british shows like art attack and Crystal Maze.
We also had a video games show called Cybernet .

While we are at it about time travel and british shows, Can any one tell me if Dr. Who is worthwhile? Seems popular but I got no idea what is it about. Also it confuses me that it is from many different time periods

Loved art attack and the Crystal Maze, not sure I remember Cybernet though.

You are probably asking the wrong person here as I've always been a massive fan of this show, so I'm always going to say that its worthwhile.

Quick synopsis: The Dr is an exiled member of an ancient race and owns a time machine called the Tardis. The Tardis is supposed to change appearance to suit its surroundings, but it is stuck in the shape of a Police telephone box - a common object in 1960s Britain.

The Doctor travels around in his time machine, usually with a human companion or two, and stands against various villains.

I would recommend that you start with series 1 of the new series, the classic series has lots of examples of great stories, scripts and ideas but not all of it has aged very well - mainly due to the lack of budget when filming them. Towards the end of the classic series it became a bit of a laughing stock because of the cheap special effects and sets. It took a long break, a big budget and a top class cast to finally break this stigmata.

I you do watch it I'd love to know what you think as someone who has no prior knowledge of the series since everybody here already has an opinion on the show whether they have actually seen it or not.
